Following
the initial
success of the analogue
MicroTAC the designers
at Motorola invested
huge time and effort in
developing their range
of new fangled GSM
digital phones.
The
MicroTAC International
GSM range of small flip
phones began with the 5200,
7200, 7500, 8200.

A
great demand had
arrived for mobile phones
for the masses and the
importance of size was
becoming a key factor.
By today's standards
these would still be
considered massive.
These phones were the first introduction
for many ordinary people to the world of mobile phones. One of the reasons for
the great popularity of models like these and the StarTAC which followed was the
nostalgic affection many people still hold. Their first phone was many things to
many people: status, convenience, technology and even a lifeline. Most people remember their
first phone with a warm fuzzy feeling. You can recapture that warm fuzzy feeling
now in two ways: You can buy this phone and rekindle your youth and glory days;
and secondly, you will also get the warm fuzzy feeling associated with holding a
high output phone close to the side of your head.

And the Dual Band 8900:
These are new and unused still with the

The
Motorola 8700 was fitted as a removable handset in the earliest Jaguar XK8 and
XKR luxury sports coupe and convertible. This was the model Jaguar used in the
cars before the StarTAC (from 1998 onwards) Apparently it will fit many Jaguar
models as well as the XK8/R from Vin No: A30645 until the end of 1998 (Such as
the XJ8 range) Please note that these phones do not carry the Jaguar logo like
the later StarTAC models did. There are some extra features and controls on the
steering wheel of the car which activated features on the phone. I cannot
confirm that these will work the extra tricks as the models supplied by Jaguar
had a software upgrade. The
8900 was the first of the 'Dual Band' phones. This meant it operated on both the
GSM 900 and 1800 band. As a result the 8900 can be used with Vodafone, O2,
T-mobile and Orange simcards.
All of these phones will work on Vodafone and O2 using the large sim cards. The
8900 is dual band and will work with Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile and Orange. We can supply
a large format Vodafone sim card for an additional £9. If you would like to
bundle accessories with your phone please contact us: info@retrobrick.com
