After
the initial impact
and growing
success of the
8000x Motorola
introduced the
8500x in 1987. This
phone was most
popular in Europe
and is most
commonly found in
the UK after the
later installation
of the cell
networks.
They
share the same
classic lines as
the 8000x and were
the next logical
progression with
updates in the
software.
Four
years on from the
first models it
looked the same,
weighed the same
and did the same
things. It may
have had one extra
button, a few
extra menu
features and 20
seconds more
battery life but
it was pretty much
like the one
before with the
exception of the
little badge on
the front.

This
phone was used
most famously by
Derek Trotter as
well as the
majority of people
working in the
financial sector
in Central London
circa 1987. These
phones were
considered state
of the art,
essential, a
status symbol, and
probably an
aphrodisiac (by
their owners)

Please
note that these phones use
the analogue phone system
and will no longer work in
the UK. They may work in
some areas of the USA but
American networks are
reluctant to implement new
analogue subscriptions.
